My Top 3 Mascaras

My Top 3 Mascaras

As mentioned in my previous post, I apologise for the complete hiatus and start up of a blog and then a disappearance of the blog…

But I’m here now! And my blog post about my top 3 favourite lipsticks seemed to do really well so I’ve decided to stick onto the make up topic for today and discuss my favourite mascaras (at the moment!).

So as anyone who has a love for make up, I have tried and tested a lot of mascaras. Mascara was really the first area of make up that I ventured into. I wasn’t interested in make up in high school but I remember all the ‘popular’ girls who would wear a full face of make up for every day at school, and for some reason I decided that I wanted to try that out too. Spoiler: It didn’t last long or go well. I had the classic Maybelline dream mousse and a Rimmel setting powder- But that’s a story for another day…

My first mascara was from a Christmas gift set that honestly was awful. I saved up my £2 a week pocket money and bought myself my first mascara. I can’t remember now which brand it was but I know I was devoted to that mascara and used it throughout high school. However, for some bizarre reason, I felt like mascara made my lashes too long. What?! Who would think mascara makes your lashes too long when that is the whole point of it? I don’t know what was going through my head either. I’m literally hanging my head in shame as I remember applying mascara and using my nails to break off the ends of them so they weren’t too long…

Then, after a school trip to Barcelona I purchased a mascara from Kiko Milano. I told everyone that that mascara was the best mascara ever. I reckon if I tried that mascara now, I would completely disagree. But as of then, I loved that beauty. And that started my obsession with mascara. I soon gave up on all make up as I could never get a shade that matched me for foundation, and I spent years wearing just mascara and eyeliner.

I’ve narrowed down my mascara collection and decided on 3 favourites. I don’t list any of these as a number one all time best ever, because for 1) new mascaras get released all the time and there is always good mascaras left undiscovered, and 2) I use different mascaras depending on what look I want to achieve for that day. I also have two honourable mention mascaras- The one’s I wouldn’t use for a full look, but I appreciate them.

No 1. Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

I first tried this mascara from a sample size from my Birchbox. I have since purchased this full size but I can’t find the tube! Hence the photo of the sample tube, I apologise!

I absolutely adore this mascara and if I was going to vote for a number 1, it would be this. It makes my lashes so so long with no gloppiness, the formula is a good texture with no thickness to it. I can wear this mascara and my lashes feel light and feathery rather than weighed down. I’ve also been known to apply up to 4 coats of this mascara to keep adding on the length and volume- and it NEVER got clumpy. No lie, no exaggeration..I despise mascaras that leave you clumpy and with about 5 eyelashes. I prefer the mascaras that give you lots of thin long lashes. I appreciate all of you who like the clumpy look, go you! But it’s not for me, hence why I love this mascara. I can get my lashes super long whilst still being fluttery and separated.

The only downfall? I can no longer find this mascara anywhere. Like, zero places. (Apart from Amazon for like £50?!) I purchased my full sized tube off Birchbox as they always supply the full size items after giving out the samples. But they stopped selling it after a few months, which coincided with me running out! And now I’m at a loss with none of it left missing it dearly. Does anyone know where I can buy this?

No. 2 Maybelline Total Temptation

Now some of you may not believe me with this one, as you may have seen that I posted it was my first time trying this mascara yesterday. But from that one application I knew. I also knew before I’d even applied it that I would love it. The consistency is perfect, not too thick and no clumps on the brush or around the lid. The brush has lots of bristles which separate the lashes perfect. I did two coats and my lashes stayed fluttery, separated and looked fantastic.

No. 3 Yves Saint Laurent Luxurious Mascara for False Lash Effect

YSL Luxurious Mascara for False Lash Effect

Now I am forever in the debt of my boyfriends mum for introducing me to this beauty. I am one who admires high end make up from afar. I watch the YouTube videos and I pine to hold in my hand something as glorious as YSL or Marc Jacobs or even Natasha Denona, sigh. I received this in a gift set with their eyeliner and their eye make up remover. If it wasn’t such a good mascara, I’d still love it due to the sleek packaging with a subtle colour change between lid and tube. It feels weight and luxurious, as the name suggests. The formula is a little thick but doesn’t feel that way on the lashes. It leaves my lashes long and with a lot of volume. I choose this for when I want my lashes to be thick and noticeable, as opposed to the others for length and flutter.

Honourable Mentions…

L’Oreal False Lash X Fiber Mascara

Now this is the only ‘lash fiber’ mascara I have used that I can actually say that I like. I usually hate the fibres that fall down all over your face and mess up the rest of your make up. This mascara doesn’t do that as long as you’re careful. Now the mascara itself, number 1 of the duo, is a bit lacklustre. The brush is small and thin and one of those brushes that is spiky to your eyelids if you press too hard, you know? And the formula is not really strong enough to do a lot to your lashes at all. The second part of the duo is the fibres. This part does tend to add a bit more length but what comes with that is also clumps and just thick spiders legs. I don’t like the look of this mascara however I will often use this just for my bottom lashes. The small dainty brush of part 1 makes it perfect to get into the bottom lashes and coat them.

L’Oreal Lash Paradise Extatic

I watched videos for MONTHS on the US Lash Paradise mascara and how everyone was using it and how amazing it was. I waited so long for this to arrive in the UK only to be baffled. What’s extatic? Why is the packaging different? Now obviously I’m not paying the crazy customs for the American lash paradise, so I don’t know for sure if there are any true differences. But from when I’ve used this, I feel like they definitely changed the formula over here. The formula gets so clumpy, it stills all over the edge and all over the tube. It also dries out super quickly because it’s so thick and clumpy. This mascara is honestly great- if you only want one layer. But for the majority of us who like to layer up, this is not suitable. The more layers you add, the less workable it becomes and you can end up with just one big clump.

If none of these sound like they suit your taste, stick a pair of false lashes on! Instant win.

So sorry if this blog went on far too long, no ifs I apologise I know this rambles. But thank you to those that have took the time to actually read this! I love that people have been liking and following, really helps me get excitement to write more!

Lots of love x
